Connexxion Stads- en Streekvervoer Almere (1 January 2010 to 9 December  2017)
Netherlands

Connexxion operated in the Almere region (both city and regional lines) since its creation in May 1999. In 2003 the concession was tendered for the first time and Connexxion won, enabling it to renew the fleet. In 2009 the concession was tendered again, with Connexxion being the only bidder. The new concession started 1 January 2010 and ends 9 December 2017.

The network consists of city services in Almere (branded as MAXX), regional services, a “Spitsbus”, R-net services and Niteliner services.

MAXX city services Almere are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14, 17 (17 is a 7-minute route not branded MAXX). Almere,a new city, was the first city in the Netherlands to have an extensive system of free busways, making te operation fast and reliable. This was included in the design of this new city, which serves as a satellite to Amsterdam.

Regional services are 151, 153, 155, 156. Service 151 connects Almere with Naarden and Bussum and 156 with Hilversum. 153 and 155 go to Amsterdam but are rush hour only. There are no evening or weekend services on these routes. Almere is connected by frequent train services to Amsterdam, Hilversum and Bussum. All regional services connect Almere southwards. The polder is an agriculture (and nature) area with Almere and Lelystad as the large urban centers and Dronten and Zeewolde as smaller centers. The connection to Lelystad (and recently Dronten) is by train. OV Regio IJsselmond is the operator for the Flevopolder except Almere and Lelystad and connects Almere to Zeewolde.

Spitsbus 210 (Rush Hour bus): Almere to Schiphol, only during rush hour. This service belongs to concession Amstelland-Meerlanden but is operated by Connexxion Tours based in Almere with two Volvo’s 5617 and 5622.

R-Net: 322, 327, 328. All R-net services connect Almere with Amsterdam. The R-net branding was created end of 2014. The buses used were already in a special red-grey livery.

Niteliner: N11, N12, N13, N27. N11, N12 and N13 are hourly night services in Almere, N27 is an hourly night service from Amsterdam to Almere.

Services 153, 155, 322, 327 and 328 all stop at Muiden P&R, which during rush hour sees a continuous flow of buses!

A complete overview of services can be found on http://wiki.ovinnederland.nl/wiki/Concessie_stads-_en_streekvervoer_Almere and on the company’s website.

In 2010 Connexxion continued with the old fleet, purchased in 2003, apart from one series of Volvo buses, 5699-5728, for express services to Amsterdam for which they were in a red-grey livery (which by the end of 2014 would become R-net). The fleet basically consists of Berkhof Ambassador 200 buses dating from 2003/2004 and Mercedes-Benz Citaro G articulated buses dating from 2003, for city services. For the long distance express services to Amsterdam there are the 14.5 meter Volvo, also dating from 2004. The new Volvo’s 5699-5728 operate the R-Net routes. Very little fleet renewal has taken place, with just a few newer buses of the same models transferred from other regions. The largest fleet renewals were in January 2014 when ten ex Utrecht Van Hool artics, already seven years old, and nine Mercedes-Benz Citaro, also seven years old, replaced older buses. The articulated Van Hools made it possible to send nine Mercedes Citaro articulated buses to the Schiphol Sternet services, where more articulated buses were needed, in return for which nine 12-meter Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses came to Almere, which in turn permitted to withdraw some of the old Berkhof Ambassadors.
