MAN has been present on the South African market since the early 1960’s with trucks and bus chassis. In 1999 MAN Truck & Bus (SA) (Pty) Ltd purchased the facility in Olifantsfontein and started production of the MK II Body in SA. In 2003 the 1000th complete MAN bus body was produced at Olifantsfontein. In 2006 the MAN Lion’s Explorer body was launched and in 2007 the 22m MAN Lion’s Explorer Bustrain was introduced. In 2008 the 2500th MAN bus body was produced at Olifantsfontein.
In 2010 the Explorer Body on the Brazilian Volksbus 17.210 chassis was introduced.
In 2011 the 27m long Lions Explorer LE3 BA further added capacity to the existing range.
Also in 2011 the MAN Lions City LE citybus was added the offerings.
At the SABOA in 2019 MAN introduced the MAN Lion’s City doubledecker. MAN also introduced a rear-engine high-floor city bus. (see article).
