Kigali Bus Services fleet
Period 2006-2011: secondhand vehicles
When KBS started its trial urban services in Kigali in 2006 it did so with a small fleet of Toyota Coasters and a few secondhand vehicles. A picture shows a Mercedes-Benz O305J -Jonckheere Transcity (RAA 364V), a Mercedes-Benz truck with bus body and some unidentified buses. The yellow Jonckheere Transcity (ex Nuynens, Belgium) was found, out of service, in a yard in 2012. Other old vehicles still present in 2012 were two Hino –Hinopak (Hino’s from Pakistan), allover white and carrying fleet number 24 (RAB 322C) and 28 (RAB 300C), and a smaller ex Japanese Hino (RAA 476X) with the door “on the wrong” side. The small Hino and the 28 were still used on some local services around Rubavu/Gisenyi in 2012/2013. The Hinopaks were out of service when the new urban operations started in 2013, the smaller Hino was repainted in the new colours and continued operating as a city bus for some two years.
