The Renault Tracer was produced between 1991 and April 2002 in Annonay, with a total of 5,435 vehicles. It was mainly sold in France, with a few going to Belgium. The bus is a high-floor interurban bus, with excursion, school and urban versions also produced. It has two doors with different door type options. It typically has 53 to 57 seats and has 6 m3 underfloor luggage space.
The bus is 11.99 meters long, 2.5 meters wide and 3.32 meters high (or 3.38 with airconditioning), with a wheelbase of 6.15 meter. It has a girder chassis with an underfloor engine between the axles.
The engine is the 186 kW Renault MIHR 06.20.45, initially Euro 0 but upgraded to Euro 1, 2 and finally 3 in 2002. Most vehicles have a manual ZF gearbox, the urban version has a Voith automatic gearbox.
It was the successor to the SAVIEM/Renault S53RX/S105RX and Berliet/Renault PR14 vehicles and was succeeded by the Karosa/Renault/Irisbus Axer, Ares and Récréo.
