Renault FR1 in Ivory Coast. Read full text
The FR1 was Renault’s successful high-end rear-engine coach, with around 5,000 produced, mainly for French customers. With Renault’s acquisition of Mack, an unsuccessful effort was made to introduce the FR1 in the US under the Mack name. The 50 Mack’s were, however, returned to France and became Renault buses. The engine is the Renault MIDR 06.20.45 or the Mack EE6.335. The vehicles was available in three lengths, 10,617 m, 11,381 m and 11,995 m, and in two heights, 3.3 and 3.745 meters. The wheelbase is 6.2 meters. There were various versions: GT, GTX, E, TX, T3, E, M340. The chassis was also used by various body builders, notably Gangloff and Obradors.
The FR1 was replaced by the Renault Iliade.
