Chavdar

Chavdar

The Balkancar B13-20 was built by Chavdar from Bulgaria, but the exporter was Balkancar (http://www.balkancar.org/). They had mechanical parts similar to Ikarus buses. The importer in Greece was Atlas. The drivers often reffered to them as the "Atlas" buses, no one knows them as Balkancar or even Chavdar! They were bought in 1982 (200 vehicles imported-as the one in the photo) and another 100 built in Greece in 1984. The main difference was that the Greek built ones had 4 leaf doors and the Bulgarian ones had 2 leaf doors. All were retired by 1994. One of the Greek bodied buses was bought at Patra and ran several more years.
