Greece has a bus system based on municipal bus companies and cooperatives (KTEL) for interurban, regional transport and city services in minor cities. Tourist operations are private. Privatisation of bus transport (Athens) was not very successful and (partly) reversed. Greece had over 100 bus builders, Biamax, ELBO (Elliniki Viomihania Ohimaton = Hellenic Vehicle Industry), Saracakis, Magirus being the larger ones. The only surviving one is former state company ELBO, most bus builders dissapperared during the 1980's, after the import of secondhand vehicles was permitted.
