Chavdar was a company manufacturing buses and coaches. The beginning of this enterprise was a car body assembling workshop founded in 1924. In 1947, it became a state-owned company and a division of DSO Balkancar. Mass production began. At first the company was just assembling bodies on the Skoda 706 RTO chassis. In the 60s it had developed its own models - M80 and M81. But during the 1970's Chavdar was most successful with its models 11M3, 11G5 and 11M4, with a bodywork based on the German Setra design. Especially the 11M4 was a coach exported to various countries in Eastern Europe and Africa. However, the difficult political situation in Bulgaria in the 1990s affected seriously Chavdar and the company stopped its activities in 1999. |
