The 9-meter Ikarus 216 is really a shortened Ikarus 260 with an underfloor engine. The first series of 50 buses had an airconditioning, contrary to later deliveries. They had a Raba-MAN D2156HM6U engine and Voith Diwa 851.2 gearbox/transmission. Most were stolen by the Iraqi forces in 1990/1991. One was rebuilt into a conference bus (see section special/rebuilt vehicles).
