Tunis-Goulette-Marsa

101-113, 214-218: MAN, 1977

The 19 km Tunis-Goulette-Marsa line was the first railway in Tunisia. It opened in 1874 and was electrified in 1910. It is standard gauge and has 18 stations. Since 1963 TGM was part of SNT, in 1981 the rail operation was split off as SMLT (Société du Métro-Léger de Tunis) for the operation of the TGM electric suburban railway and the new urban light rail system. In 2003 the rail operations were merged with the Tunis bus operations as TRANSTU.

The current two-car trains replaced the original sets in 1977. They were built by MAN. There were two deliveries, numbered 101-113 and 214-218 with motors prefixed A and trailers R. When delivered they were equiped for third rail current collection (as used originally on the system) and pantographs. When the line was fully equiped with overhead wiring the third rail collectors were removed.
