ONATRACOM

ONATRACOM (Office Nationale des Transports en Commyn) is the government bus company and its buses carry government registrations. During the 1980's the company had 70 Nissan -Fuji buses dating from 1976 and 40 dating from 1983. Those were provided through Japanese development cooperation. There were also 15 Daihatsu minibuses. The company provided limited urban services in Kigali with some 10 buses, while the others were used on intercity transport. At the time the civil servants paid lower rates, as could be seen on the tickets. Interestingly the bus stops at the time were the typical German yellow and green ones with the "H" for Haltestelle. One was still seen in central Kigali in 2012.

In 2012 the company still exists though it appears it has been deteriorating and few buses were seen driving. Depots were noted in Gisenyi and Ruhengeri, with the main depot and offices in Kigali (picture). A dozen buses were seen, all built in Kenya, except for one Toyota Coaster midibus. ONATRACOM has its own ticket office at the bus station.
