The Société des Transports Urbains de Niamey (SOTRUNI) was the split-off of the Société Nationale des Transports Nigériens (SNTN) for urban transport on 3 December 1996.

The company continued with the urban Isuzu buses of SNTN. Fleet enlargement was achieved through cooperation with the municipality of Milano in Italy and several secondhand buses were added. However, the fleet deteriorated further and few buses remain in operation. A photo shows one of the old Isuzu's in january 2006. In 2015 an Ashok-Leyland was seen, but no services in Niamey were evident.
