Minibuses
The most common public transport vehicle in Mauritania is the secondhand Mercedes minbuses. Large numbers in the most worn-out possible state ply the roads, both on urban routes and on rural transport services. Many are just vans with cut out "windows". It appears owners are associated in several associations, as buses were seen with FMTR, FTM and FNT lettering, logically standing for "Fédération Mauritanienne des Transporteurs Routiers", Fédération des Transporteurs Mauritaniens" and Fédération Nationale de Transport" or something similar.
