French vehicle manufacturer Renault built buses until 195x, when the heavy vehicle division became part of SAVIEM. In 1978 SAVIEM merged with Berliet, the other large French manufacturer and in 1980 the Renault name re-appeared on heavy vehicles. Egypt recieved some renault buses in th 1950's. Larger numbers of Saviem (later Renault) S105 and S105R went to Alexandria around 1980. During the 1980's and 1990's Berliet (later Renault) PR14S and, to a lesser extend, SAVIEM (later Renault) E7 coaches/long distance buses came to Egypt. The PR14S and E7 were Berliet and SAVIEM models that Renault continued until a new coach, the FR1, replaced them. FR1's also can be found in Egypt. To be able to deliver a cheaper alternative to their own bodywork, Renault collaborated with Ikarus from Hungary and UTIC from Portugal, delivering the PR14S with bodywork by those companies. A particular interesting combination is the Feng Rong body from Taiwan on Renault chassis.
