Connexxion Amstelland-Meerlanden (10 December 2017 to December 2027)
Netherlands
company /new concession website

On 10 December 2017 Connexxion started the new concession Amstelland-Meerlanden, comprising the area between Uithoorn-Schiphol-Nieuw-Vennep-Haarlem and Amsterdam Zuid. Connexxion was already the operator of this concession, which makes for a smooth transition. All the more necessary as the 100 electric buses that are core to the concession will only be operated from April 2018 onwards. While the electric buses are ready, the complexity of the infrastructure, the responsibility of Schiphol Airport, was underestimated and is not ready yet and the full electric operation has been postponed. Also, the new Amsterdam subway North-South Route (Noord-Zuid lijn) will open mid-2018, after which a number of bus routes will be curtailed to Amsterdam Zuid. As a result, Connexxion will maintain 102 (?) vehicles of the existing fleet until April and June 2018.

The new fleet consists of:

Underlying network (white buses):
2700-2706: 7 IVECO Crossway LE 10.8 m (the order of 8 was reduced to 7, hence open number 2707).
2708-2721: 14 IVECO Crossway LE 13 m.

R-net (express services):
1129-1146: 18 VDL Futura DD 14 meter double deckers (operated by TCR);
2722-2768: 47 IVECO Crossway LE 13 m;
9300-9339: 40 Solaris Urbino 18 (which will be replaced by electric buses after three years);
9340-9372: 33 Mercedes-Benz CapaCity L;
9751-9799: VDL 18 meter electric buses SLFA180 (from April 2018 onwards).

For the Schiphol network:
9700-9750: 51 VDL 18 meter electric buses BRT design, SLFA181 (from April 2018 onwards)

Small buses (neigborhood bus):
7224: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

To replace the electric buses until April 2018 and in anticipation of the opening of the North-South subway in Amsterdam, Connexxion retained:

The new network

Underlying network: 145, 161, 162, 165, 166, 167, 169, 171 and 174. These are “normal” bus routes based on Amstelveen and Hoofddorp. Frequency is one or two times per hour. New vehicles for these routes are the seven 10.8 meter IVECO Crossway LE 2700-2706 (originally 2700-2707 but the order was reduced by one vehicle) and 14 13-meter IVECO Crossway LE 2708-2721. These are in a white livery with red logo’s.

R-net: 300, 340, 341, 342, 346, 347, 356, 357 and 397 are high quality express routes. Frequency is for most routes eight times per hour. Several new routes were added, and the network has changed. The major route is still 300, almost fully on free busways from Schiphol to Haarlem. For these routes the new Solaris Urbino 18 and Mercedes-Benz Capacity L articulated buses, the VDL Futura double deckers and 13-meter IVECO Crossway LE are used. The new VDL Citea SLFA electric buses will enter service in April 2018. In the meantime, older buses are retained: 28 MAN Lion’s City T and 32 Mercedes-Benz Citaro G. In addition, 10 Volvo 8700 vehicles from the Almere concession came, but this was already decided before the delay for the electric services was known.

Buurtbus 401: there is one neighborhood bus in the concession for which a new Mercedes minibus 7224 has been bought.

AMLFlex is a new on-demand system (already tested in Arhem-Nijmegen as Brengflex) with taxi’s or minibuses that can be ordered up to 30 minutes before departure with a telephone app. It uses electric vehicles (Nissan Leaf) and operates from 7 AM (Saturdays and Sundays 8 AM) to 9 PM. There is no schedule, the vehicle can be ordered any moment. It uses the bus stops of the routes it replaced in Rijssenhout, Abbenes, Buitenkaag and Nes aan de Amstel. Payment can be by phone or chipcard. The tariff is the same as for normal public transport.

Nightservices are N30, N42, N47, N57, N90, N95 and N97, which are the night versions of 300, 342, 357, 190, 195 and 397, thus offering 24-hour service to main routes in the network. Frequency is at least twice per hour.

Rush hour services increase frequencies and take more direct routes. They are numbered in the 200-series: 242, 255, 261, 271 and 287.

School bus service 612 (Abcoude-Amstelveen Uilenstede) has one return trip in school days, service 661 has just one trip per day in the morning to Hoofddorp.
